By 2025, Ummbila Emoyeni’s ambitious vision will have materialised into 155 megawatts of renewable wind energy generation, marking a significant milestone in our journey to cleaner power. But that’s just the beginning. Over the coming years, we are scaling up our aspirations across six strategic phases to deliver 900 megawatts of renewable energy.

Community in the heartland of energy production

This isn’t just an investment in energy; it’s a resounding commitment to the heart of our operations – the local community. Our project not only generates electricity but also stimulates the local economy by supporting and creating direct and indirect jobs for over 600 individuals. We take pride in having already opened doors for numerous job seekers, collecting 5600 individual applications for skills development training, fuelling local prosperity.

Carbon reduction

Our initiatives extend beyond employment; we are devoted to reducing our carbon footprint and are set to cut carbon emissions by an impressive 230,000 to 300,000 tonnes annually. This effort in carbon reduction is equivalent to the environmental impact of removing tens of thousands of cars from the roads each year.

Legacy

Moreover, our investment in training and skilling the workforce is creating a legacy of expertise in sustainable energy. In line with our ethos, we pledge that 65% of employment and supply chain opportunities will be sourced locally, ensuring the benefits of our growth are deeply rooted in the community.

Lower priced energy

The energy produced from our renewable sources also represents a significant stride towards affordability, with the cost per kilowatt-hour significantly undercutting that of coal, renewables remaining far cheaper than coal at R1/kWh versus R2.50-8/kWh, driving critical cost savings. By opting for renewables, we not only embrace environmental stewardship but also drive cost savings, reinforcing the case for wind energy as the smarter choice for a brighter, greener future.
